Loch Morar
Loch Morar is a very beautiful, wild inland loch. As such, it has no campsites or facilities and so this will be a self-sufficient wild camping trip. The access road is a very narrow single-track road which runs only a short way along the northern shore and parking for cars and trailers is limited. Launching is via the estate's slipway accessed from this road. The estate does not charge for use of this slipway by non-powered boats but will charge for boats with outboards. The aim will be to sail down to the eastern end of the Loch, where there is a bothy set among impressive mountain scenery, with ample space for camping outside. Launching arrangements must be made with the estate, so it is essential to let the contact person know if you wish to attend. |
St. Mary’s Loch This weekend is part of the Border Reivers rally which starts at Kielder Water. See England North East for more information. DCA members are more than welcome to join this part of the rally only, however numbers may be limited at St. Mary's Loch Sailing Club so it is essential to check with the contact person first. |
Islands of Fleet. Solway Firth Sailing was based at Newton Bay Farm campsite which is near Gatehouse of Fleet in Galloway, South West Scotland. The site has easy beach launching for dinghies and offers a great introduction to the tides of the Solway coast. High waters were early afternoon , so were pretty good for day sailing around the Islands. |
Loch Long
This rally was based at Ardentinny Outdoor Centre. The Centre is used as an adventure centre for school children during school term time but winds down during the school holidays. The Centre provides inside accommodation, mostly en suite bunk rooms but they also accommodate camper vans and tents. No meals are offered but there is a kettle, microwaves and refrigerators provided for people to make our own meals. There are drying facilities and the staff common room is available for relaxing and dining. |
